Our West Palm Beach Alcohol Detox Program
Our South Florida detox center provides high quality addiction medicine to alleviate the dangerous and uncomfortable symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. Whether you have been an alcoholic for years or have recently developed alcohol dependence, we have a treatment plan for you.
The detox process for alcohol typically involves a taper of anti seizure medication to minimize dangerous withdrawal symptoms. At the same time, our doctors will prescribe comfort medications to make the transition into sobriety seamless. Our health care professionals monitor patients closely 24/7 so that no patient ever feels alone in this difficult time.
We understand that detox can be emotionally and physically challenging, so we allow patients to progress at their own speed. Comfort and relaxation are encouraged until the body has healed. After detox, we begin the process of treating the underlying mental health factors. We utilize traditional 1 on 1 and group therapies, as well as holistic treatment methods.
We encourage our patients to participate in programs like Alcoholics Anonymous, but it is not required. Each patient’s journey to sobriety is their own, and we are here to help.

What To Expect During Alcohol Detox
Each patient’s experience with alcohol detox is different. However, at 1 Solution Detox each patient’s experience begins with a warm welcome. Our caring staff will make you feel at home right away.
On admission, you will be medically evaluated. This evaluation helps to ensure that you are detoxed properly and your medical needs are met. Then you will complete an interview designed to assess your clinical needs. Above all, this provides your therapists with insights into your mental health.
Once completed, staff will help you get situated in your room and give you a tour of the facility. Then you will see a doctor who will prescribe medication to aid your detox and get you back to health. After that, you will be introduced to your team of therapists and case managers.
Your therapists will develop a treatment plan for you. Your case manager will ensure that your life outside of treatment is managed. This includes arrangements for FMLA, short term disability, and any legal or personal matters that need attention.
During the most uncomfortable periods of alcohol detox, you will be given the time and space to rest and recover. Once you feel better physically, you will begin to work with your therapist on building a sustainable foundation of recovery. A happy and healthy life of sobriety awaits you!
Alcohol Detox Timeline
Without medical attention, alcohol detox can be deadly. This is what you can expect while detoxing from alcohol if you try to stop cold turkey.
Day 1: You may begin to experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms within 6 to 12 hours after your last drink. These symptoms include headaches, anxiety, and irritability. In addition, you may begin to experience physical symptoms like tremors, disorientation, and seizures as you approach the 24 hour mark.
Day 2: During the second day, the symptoms you experienced in the first 24 hours will increase in intensity. Additionally you may experience vomiting, hallucinations, and panic attacks.
Days 3-7: Throughout this period, the various symptoms you have been experiencing will come and go. You will likely experience some degree of insomnia during this first week. During this period you are at the highest risk of delirium tremens, a symptom which can be life-threatening.
After the first week: Symptoms will begin to dissipate or become less frequent. However, even after the most painful symptoms have ended you may experience post-acute withdrawal syndrome. PAWS is usually less intense than the initial withdrawal symptoms but can last months.
Medications For Alcohol Detox
At an inpatient alcohol treatment center, a number of medications can be used to control withdrawal symptoms and minimize alcohol cravings.
Benzodiazepines like Librium, Valium, and Ativan are commonly used to treat insomnia and anxiety. They also reduce the risk of seizure. Similarly, drugs like Lamictal, Depakote, and Tegretol can be used to reduce seizure risk.
Acomprosate medications like Campral can be prescribed after a few days of detox to reduce alcohol cravings. As a result, the drug is helpful to many drinkers to remain abstinent. Vivitrol shots have also proven to be effective in reducing cravings. This medication also blocks alcohol from producing an enjoyable high.
Similarly, disulfiram is sometimes used to deter recovering alcoholics from drinking because of its unpleasant side-effects when combined with alcohol.
It is important to note that none of these medications are a substitute for proper alcohol rehab. They are most effective when combined with a traditional alcohol treatment plan.
Drug Addiction Treatment
Drug addiction is common among patients with alcohol dependence. Illicit drugs like cocaine are often combined with alcohol. Prescription drugs can also be abused with alcohol. Fortunately, 1 Solution Detox has effective drug addiction treatment plans as well.
